Anime: Mononoke

Mononoke

Horror is a genre that I usually avoid. Not because I am pvssy or afraid of ghosts, it's actually the reverse I love horror. But most of the horror anime I've seen only from outlook, I never watch them actually. Seem to be relying only on blood, gore and jump scares or shock effect to make us scare instead of focusing on the actual story and creating a terrifying environment. So because all of these reasons I have never actually watch horror anime.

I have seen some episode of hell girl when I was a child but it was dull and lackluster. Until I heard of Ayakashi: Japanese classic tales which was  different from other offering in the genre and it was the last episode of Ayakashi which feature the mc of Mononoke which we refer to as " the medicine seller" from now on, which eventually led me to watch Mononoke.

Mononoke is a horror, mystery and supernatural anime produced by studio toei.

The anime doesn't have a continuous plot but instead consist of series of short story arc , each arc doesn't have any similarly to other. Each story deal with a type of mononoke a type of spirit and the medicine seller who try to exorcise them by knowing their from, truth and reason. If someone here have watched the anime Mushishi , he will notice the eminent similarity between these two anime and yes they are very similar only difference is story in mononoke are bit more mature and doesn't seem to have the clear cut ending that Mushishi arc tend to have. Another is MC Ginko is much more likable and expressive protagonist compared to medicine seller who pretty much remain quite through out the anime unless its required to talk.

Well yeah its very likely to compare two anime especially when both are so similar same is true for the case of these two you can't choose which is better but both are some of the finest example of art you will experience in anime. Moving on what strike me most in the anime was the atmosphere.
The eerie and creepy atmosphere the anime create send chill down to your spine , add the marvelous editing and the different type of shots used to portray the scene created a amazing experience that is also terrifying at same time. Adding to that is marvelous music , classical Japanese music used perfectly to deliver creepiness and the moments of shock which make your heart beat faster.

Art and animation is just out of this world , I love the paper animation style it give detail to anime that normal animation fail to provide , it also used to emphasis on surrounding which you would notice , especially when something is happening in background while characters are talking. This add to overall environment of the anime. The colors are vivid and bright but this doesn't take Mich from creepiness instead it add another few things to it.

Overall Aononoke is simply a amazing visual and storytelling experience that is not for everyone.
But those who appreciate these kind of anime will certainly applaud ita greatness.

Overall I recommends this anime to all.
